Reverso Context offers all the features and results you’d expect from a traditional dictionary and much more:
Three things set Reverso apart: the scale of the data, the language coverage, and a platform that never stops evolving.
Absolutely! Unlike traditional dictionaries that are built mostly around single words, Reverso works like a translation search engine for phrases and expressions. You can search full idioms and expressions like "that's the last straw" or "turn to custard" all the way to slang phrases like “it sucks” or more formal ones like “please acknowledge receipt” and instantly see how they are used and translated in real contexts.
Reverso covers most popular expressions, idioms, such as 🟡 yellow belly, 🥔couch potato, ♨️ hot mess, and slang or spoken language including the latest trends, like 🤡 cringe comedy, 😏sus, 🤷🏼♀️take the L…
On top of that, it benefits from thousands of user contributions through Reverso Collaborative Dictionary. This community-driven hub allows users to share regional expressions, neologisms, and internet slang, helping keep our coverage fresh, diverse, and constantly evolving.
Colors in Reverso Context serve two purposes:
First, each color represents a part of speech or grammatical category, such as noun, verb, adjective, and so on. This makes it easy to instantly spot the translation you need and filter results by grammar category with a single click.
Second, you may notice a small color marker in the right-hand corner of some translations. This is a register warning, flagging that the translation is colloquial or rude. This way, you can be confident that a word or expression is appropriate for the context.
Yes. Reverso Context is free and helps you understand any word or expression you come across while reading, watching, browsing or having conversations. We offer a Premium subscription for those who want to go beyond understanding and boost their language skills or productivity.
The subscription includes:
Absolutely — and we encourage it! There are two ways to contribute.
If you come across an inaccurate or inappropriate translation or example, you can vote against it. Just go to the example you want to report and click on the thumbs-down icon on the right-hand corner. Alternatively, you can give feedback using the contact form. Your feedback will be reviewed by our team of expert linguists and taken into account to help improve the system.
You can also go further by contributing to our Collaborative Dictionary; adding missing translations, regional expressions, neologisms, or slang that you feel should be covered. Your contributions help keep Reverso relevant, diverse, and always evolving.
Reverso is an all-in-one learning tool, so we also have flashcards similar to Quizlet or Anki, but optimized for language learning because every word you search or save is automatically turned into a flashcard — no manual setup needed! If you are registered, you can check your vocabulary page here and click on the flashcards button.
Each card includes audio and real-life usage examples, and when you save a word while reading, Reverso captures the exact sentence you found it in, so you always learn vocabulary in its context. This way, you can build your own lists naturally and effortlessly, just by clicking on the words or expressions that you want to remember. Alternatively, you can try our curated lists covering Daily Life, Business, Idioms, Travel, and Test Prep.
And to top it all up: we also offer advanced spaced repetition to help you review words at the right time for long-term retention. So, we could say that Reverso is a sort of personalized Flashcard Tool That Builds Itself.
Because our examples are extracted from millions of real-life texts, they can occasionally include slang, offensive terms, or sensitive expressions. Reverso flags these entries to warn users while still preserving access to authentic, unfiltered language.
While some flags indicate inherently rude or vulgar terms, others mark words that are not offensive on their own but may lead to controversial results. For instance, a search for the word “black” is neutral, but it may be flagged because it frequently appears in sensitive movie dialogues or historical texts regarding topics like slavery.
Yes! You can search for any word as you find it in a sentence. Whether you type a conjugated verb, a declined noun, or a plural, Reverso will give examples of that exact form and it will also display its root form as a suggestion. If you look for “loaded” you will get meanings of that form and also a suggestion under the search bar to let you know that its root form is “load”, you can just click on that suggestion if you want to explore more. Same if you look for an agglutinated form in Arabic like “الحبيبة” it will show you the root “حبيبة”
And when you search a root form — like the verb "eat" — Reverso groups all its conjugated forms and tenses under the translation, showing you every way the word has been used in real contexts. So, you can click on each form and filter examples using that exact form, check it out! Same goes for declined forms in languages like German or Russian, see it for yourself! It's a great way to naturally absorb grammar patterns without having to look them up separately.
To get the best results we recommend using the correct spelling and capitalization. This is especially important in languages where accents change the meaning of a word entirely.
Take Spanish, for example, práctica (practice, noun) and practica (he/she practices, verb) are two different words. Casing is also important for languages like German but not only. In general, Context will find examples that match the casing of your search. Discover it for yourself: type “Turkey” versus “turkey” in English, and see how the examples change.
That said, if you accidentally mistype, our system will detect it and suggest the correct spelling below your search. So, if you type acommodation, we'll point you to accommodation and get you back on track.
