Use the guided workflow to compare SQL performance for all types of system changes other than a database initialization parameter change, as described in "Using the Guided Workflow".
An Oracle database registers with the listener within a minute or so of starting up. Supported services, that is, the services to which the listener forwards client requests, can be configured in the listener.ora file, or this information can be dynamically registered with the listener. This dynamic registration feature is called service registration is performed by the PMON process-an instance background process-of each database instance that has the necessary configuration in the database initialization parameter file. Dynamic service registration does not require any configuration in the listener.ora file.
The administration of initialization parameters in Oracle RAC environments is slightly different from single-instance database parameter example, if you change a parameter setting that is marked by an asterisk, which indicates that the parameter is a clusterwide database initialization parameter, then you change that parameter's setting for all the instances in your Oracle RAC you change an initialization parameter prefixed with an instance name, or an instance-specific initialization parameter, then the change affects only that instance; the change does not affect the parameter's settings on other database instances.
The IFILE database initialization parameter can be used to embed the contents of another initialization parameter file within the current initialization parameter file.
Note: To create an analysis task to test database initialization parameter changes, use the simplified parameter change workflow instead, as described in "Using the Parameter Change Workflow".
Use the parameter change workflow to determine how a database initialization parameter change will affect SQL performance, as described in "Using the Parameter Change Workflow".
